Christians are called, in the Book of Common Prayer (p.260), to “contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression.” But that is exactly what Katharine Jefferts Schori has done by choosing to ignore the organized, national scapegoating of Gay and Lesbian persons in Nigeria, so that she could come home with the Anglican Communion halfway intact.

I really don’t give a rat’s ass what The Episcopal Church decides about Gay bishops and same-sex marriage. But it is unconscionable to ignore the demonization of defenseless Gay people while Big Oil bribes the government of Nigeria, pillages the Anglican Church, keeps everyone in poverty, rapes the environment and loots national resources.
I am ashamed of this Presiding Bishop, whose election just months ago I hailed.
